It's Good to be Gruene

While the boys were napping this afternoon, I sat outside enjoying my patio, the warm Texas sun and "American Wife" by Curtis Sittenfeld (total side note, but what a cool boy name for a girl!). I read a quote that struck me and immediately made me think of this past weekend. More specifically the following quote reminded me of Em and Tommy-the reason for my weekend trip to Gruene, Texas. Here goes...
"if he didn't fully understand where I came from, he understood who I was now-he knew how well done I liked my steak, knew the color of my toothbrush, the expression I made when I realized I'd forgotten to roll up my car windows before it rained."
It was a beautiful weekend shared with good, old friends. Em and Tommy seemed completely in sync with each other and couldn't keep their hands off each other. It was great to witness. It had been a while since I'd been to a wedding; I still cry upon seeing the bride. Guess that will never end. There are worse things.
I grew up spending my summers in the Texas Hill Country at Camp Longhorn and have tubed down the Guadalupe more times than I can count, but it has been quite a while since I have been surrounded by the beauty of South Texas and I quickly remembered what a proud Texan I am. We stayed in a beautiful cabin on the river and were immersed in stunning Texas landscape all weekend. We listened to Willie, had margaritas for lunch, shopped under the hot sun at the market, survived magnificent springtime Texas thunderstorms, witnessed as the long wedding ceremony tempted mother nature, danced to silly pop songs and brilliant covers of Fade Into You & Dead Flowers (thank you Caitlin) stayed up late and got up early. It was a magical first weekend away from the boys, I am grateful for every moment & happy to home with a pocketful of memories and a sweet new fedora. Kelly & I wrote on rocks for Em & Tommy...I hope they enjoy our quotes...
"And so today, my world it smiles, your hand in mine, we walk the miles" Led Zeppelin
"May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. And rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the hollow of His hand" Irish Blessing

Good Fences Make Good Neighbors

Just a few photos of Parker before bedtime...showing off his new Wrangler gear from our kind neighbor who reps Wrangler and had us over to "shop".
